Leather jacket to hobo bag by delacyonline…

Posted in accessories, bags, fashion, leather, lifestlye by delacybag on July 24, 2011

This year I have produced so far four or five up-cycled leather bag’s, thats one a month- fast work, mainly hobo bag’s from vintage leather jackets.

The results are Amazing like being stuck in a maze when you see them. I have seen other examples from other designers, who seem to use major parts of the jacket’s as parts of the bag. I approach it a little differently and completely deconstruct the jacket I have chosen aaarrrhahaha – this is probably one of the best bits, then start to build the bag pattern from that.

By doing this I can then lend more detail to the character of the jacket / bag,  adding straps, zip pockets, plap, plaf,… the only real bits I have used are popper’s, pocket opening’s and maybe the odd interesting seem in the designing’s

Then throw it all together with a bit o Liberty lining and Bob’s your antique tea cup….. a wonderous bagging’s

These bags are turning out to be stunning one of a kind pieces, and there will more to come no doubt …

They are here for sale In my webboid boutique… delacyonline.com

If you get the chance to, check out the new exhibition of interactive installation art at the manchester city art gallery . the exhibition  ” Awaiting your input ” runs til January  end 2011. well worth a look and touch as it is free lala,,,,

Highlights of the exhibition include Pulse Room, on show in the UK for the very first time. Premiered in Puebla, Mexico in 2006 and shown to critical acclaim in the Mexican pavilion for the Venice Biennale in 2007, this compelling work is made up of 100 light bulbs which are activated by a sensor to flash at the exact rhythm of particpants’ heart rates. Also, the work People on People (a co-commission by Manchester Art Gallery and Abandon Normal Devices festival), a major new installation inspired by portraiture and shadowplays, which will turn the gallery’s temporary exhibition space into one of the world’s most advanced scanners.

Manchester Art Gallery is the only UK venue for the show so this is an interactive experience.

Pocky pocky pocky it comes on a stick.

Eaten in public you might look a prick.

Stawberry flavour is pink and good.

Especially when you sink under your  hood.

Banana pocky is best for me.

Its hidden there in the china town

Smiles smiles smiles never a frown.

Walk in the shop get all confused.

Past the gumdrops, you feel enthused.

There they are hidden in the corner.

Grab them quick, straight to the counter.

You know it makes sense to get from your pocket.

Forty five pence -less than a plug socket.

Lux it up …A Satur day / Night Secrets Manchester

Posted in art, fashion, food, lifestlye, music by delacybag on July 22, 2010

Word kids words….

right so first on the day of fun john and I headed for the free illegal picnic organized by G*** , i cannot give their name as it is illegal > for their events you have to phone a premium number an hour before the event starts to find out the location ,, underground baby . the location is the Mancunian way, which is the inner ring road fly over around the city centre near to Hulme. a pretty cool venue gated all around, (which helps stop police vehicles from getting in) and under the fly over which I’m sure helped resonate the sounds far and wide.

we stayed at the illegal picnic til we felt woozy enough to go and get some green stuff off a friend and came across some urban development on the way, 1st is a building abandoned by the recession- I thought it was kinda kool a bit like a multi story car park impossible to drive around- a large concrete sculpture.

next stop roadhouse, a basement venue in Piccadilly, there where some pretty random bands playing there tonight. first up was this hardcore punk band from Manchester called Obsessive Compulsive  which i thought were the best band of the night pretty live with energy which is all good in the hood .

The headliners were william control a crazy gay electro outfit which I wasn’t entirely convinced with but the kids seem to go wild for them, a bit like circus meets band.

Inbetween bands we burritoed it up in piccadilly gardens.

Next on the tour da la Saturday is the castle pub on Oldham street on the way there we found hidden nature taking over behind a wall of posters and a lil bit o street art.

From here there was a photo opportunity outside the world famous Matt and Phreds jazz club, a place you usually end up not for the music but because it open for late drinks the music tends to be the bonus…. the picture is taken with this random guy we met at the castle,, he was a pretty cool cat, being all macho with top off for the photo, make what you will of that one.

From here its a quick trip down oldham st and round the corner to the heart of manchester ‘s trendy northern quarter to a bar called the marble, we stop here for a street beer and a posh ham selection from Spain Poland and Italy … yeah we don’t mess about. this place is really cool, an amazing selection of beers some of which are brewed, by them from their flagship pub just up the road called the marble arch. in my opinion the best pub in the north west, tiled from floor to ceiling and dating back a good many years. the food here is fucking good especially the burgers, which we tend to call space burgers as you feel pretty zonked after one.

So this is now my Bespoke retro 70,s coffee table. Bought from Ebay for a mire 30 of my hard earned english brass. I have since lowered the bad boy by 4 inches. it also had a nasty bit of veneered chipboard as the middle shelf so a piece of mirror has been cut to match the amazing mirrored top at a cost of 27 quid ,, not bad for a cheeky coffee table. OOOOO lala very posh .. up next D.I.Y. tv unit …..

PEEP SHOW IN ANCOATS…

Posted in art, interior design, lifestlye by delacybag on June 23, 2010

Seek and one shall find. Just across the way from my apartment in manchester is Ancoats, which is now apartments built from the old cotton mills and textile factories of the past , i love this area ,the cobbled streets and subtle signs of what  lived before , the meet between modern and old.

there are hidden treasures here. the photo taken is of a peep hole art work within the building them selves on the outer walls, they have a nautical brass look about them on first glance, but truly magical as you would have to know they existed or romantically stumble across them. they art work is by Dan Dubowitz , an urban artist . I particularly enjoy this one as it features 2 sewing machines which both move as if having a lil chat ..

Ancoats is made up of three areas- Ancoats Urban Village, New Islington and the Ashton Canal Corridor.

The area’s proximity to the city centre means it benefits from all the central shops and bars as well as the up and coming Northern Quarter with its rich bohemian atmosphere. Only a ten minute walk from Piccadilly train station and situated directly on the inner ring road, it is perfect for residents commuting out of town as well as those coming to work in Ancoats.

Ancoats Urban Village is known as the world’s first industrial suburb and has one of the largest concentrations of Grade II and Grade II* listed building in Manchester. Many of these mills are currently being restored and turned into modern yet sympathetic apartments and commercial space

Disturbing Ink by Andrew James Jones

Posted in art, lifestlye by delacybag on May 20, 2010

Leeds was the first place I met Andrew Jones Jones through a freind of mine at uni , who is now  ”Mucky Sailor”, an amazing Electronic 2 piece from Leeds, Andrew has since worked on gig posters and album artworks with them…. but we will hear about them later…

…Wild, Grotesque, Sexual, Funny, Evil, Enticing are just a few words that spring to my mind whilst viewing Jones’ work. When i first met  Jones he was working on a small Fanzine call “Lead”, a play on the word and city Leeds from what i can remember. the work has come leaps and bounds since then. These amazing paintings and drawings really draw you in with there detailed facial expressions and quite off the wall and disturbing subject matter, but there is an unforced beauty about each one which will keep you returning to have a look time and time again. the images are created using ink, paint and photocopys of sometimes rude human parts which are manipulated and collarged to create the features within Jones’ unique creatures he draws, sometimes with funny story’s about the subject in question written in ink as if by a small boy.  There a body part of many of andrews friends hidden within his diverse work ranging from book art to Installation.

Jones has shown Europe including Paris and Berlin and all over London (where he is based) and the UK. I picked up one of his drawings in an exhibition in Leeds years ago for a mire £150 which with out a doubt was a great investment, i now have a small collection of his work including his first published book titled “How Long Have I Been Dead“. Jones’ is one to invest in if you can, however if you cant quite afford that then get at this book called “Pen to Paper” where he is featured along with other fine artists.

you can find out more about Andrew James Jones and his wonderful drawings here..
