Work in progress
I have just began a collaboration with my Manchester stockist Bionic Seven, a boutique in Manchester’s Northern Quarter who sell hand picked vintage menswear. The idea was to create duffel bags from vintage Berghaus and Barbour Jackets.
The blue Berghaus duffel bag I have created is Gore-tex and has outer and internal zip pockets.
The second duffel bag, my favorite is upcycled using a Barbour “Border” waxed jacket. I decided to wash the jacket before taking it apart, I then re-waxed it after the pattern had been cut – it was then ready to be sewn. The Barbour classic check lining has been kept inside the bag and the original labels sewn back inside too. A great holdall which features 4 outer pockets and 2 internal.
Theses duffel bags are now available from Bionic Seven priced at £60 & £70 – Bargain. I may well also produce a luxury version of the Barbour bag for delacyonline.etsy.com with a leather strap & trim and a brand new Barbour style check liner.
I decided to create a bespoke Damien Hirst leather clutch bag for the delacyonline Etsy store inspired by this famous art work –
“The Physical Impossibility Of Death In The Mind Of Someone Living” – Tiger shark, steel, glass, 5% formaldehyde solution, 1991 by the British artist Damien Hirst.
The shark is hand cut in metallic gunmetal & perforated grey leather, which were then inlaid into the surrounding turquoise leather. The nude leather was then sewn over the top creating the reproduction artwork for the front of the clutch bag. This bespoke leather clutch is number 2/5 now available from delacyonline.etsy.com

Recently I found this beautiful Gazelle hide in an auction. In the past I have made bags using hair-on cow hides. The Gazelle hide is perfect for the front of a bag as it has thicker fur at the base of the spine, which creates a mohawk in the centre of the bag, also adding some symmetry to the piece.
‘Emilie’, the finished hobo bag has been created using a soft milk chocolate distressed brown leather. The natural edges of this wonderfully soft leather have been used and sewn together as part of the design, producing an organic structure which can’t be reproduced the same, and which compliments the natural shape and essence of the hide itself.
Just to top it off I’ve sanded, bees waxed & polished a real cow horn for a handle strap, this is also accompanied with the beautiful soft brown leather and dusty gold brass & hardware.
Emilie has a further fully adjustable and detachable leather cross body strap. For the closure three brass pop studs have been added, in the centre and at each corner of the hide, inside is a further Ykk Excella zip closure. The hobo bag is lined in Liberty of London “Landis” Tana print cotton and has a large internal leather zip pocket.
de Lacy is proud to be stocking bespoke leather wallets and accessories in Manchester’s best menswear vintage boutique “Bionic Seven”. The wallets are hand crafted using the finest leathers and lined beautifully in Liberty of London print fabrics, on top of this customers can also choose the leather & fabric from in house swatches to create their own unique colour way for just an extra £5 on top of the wallet prices! Bionic Seven is also stocking my amazing handmade key fobs and leather tassel key rings.
Bionic Seven is run by Nick and Imran – two fashion conscious guys from Manchester who began their vintage empire a few years back but have recently moved around the corner to a bigger shop unit in Manchester’s ever evolving hip Northern Quarter. Bionic Seven is now situated opposite Port St Beer House at number 60 Port St, Manchester.
The store sells a wide range of great hand picked vintage wears from hats to shoes to Barbour jackets to Levis 501’s you will find it all hear laid out beautifully over 2 floors. The on trend clothing is carefully chosen and sourced from places such as Paris, and the U.S. so you can be sure to find a treat that no one else will be rocking! The guys also understand that certain vintage items sometimes need a little altering to achieve the best fit – fear not whether you need the Dockers chinos taking up or the sleeves of a Levis jacket taking in they have their own trusted personal tailors to do just this.
Barbour jackets from £80.
Denim shirts from £25
Amazing Vintage Karrimor red framed rucksack with Union Jack £70. Levis 501 jeans £30. Dockers chino’s £40.

A must visit on any Manchester shopping trip, de Lacy Online wallets and accessories will be available from Bionic Seven throughout the Christmas period and into the new year.
Recently I bought this amazing authentic leather biker jacket, with the idea to create a bespoke biker bag from it as part of my SS13 delacyonline website launch.
I have previously produced bespoke pieces from vintage jackets, this one was particularly hard to pick apart as it was a stunning jacket in perfect worn in condition and fitted me a treat. Unlike the thinner fashion reproductions you may find for sale in shops, the leather is thick and soft and the whole jacket was padded with foam with quilting around the shoulders and elbows!
This is mind I didn’t want to loose the functions within the jacket itself, one of the main functions and features is the classic front zip through. The jacket was carefully deconstructed and laid out for each piece to be considered. By doing this I came to the conclusion that the main zip could be used vertically in the middle of the bag to create a two size bag that could change in size with the main zip running around the body of the bag.
I kept the front pretty unchanged and by tweaking it and sewing other parts to the sides, mirroring each other, a base square shape was created for the main body of the bag. Buckle straps were recreated and changed slightly as the original ones looked tired and worn, other press studs where added in places to allow for the main zip to take on it’s new function of “bag resizing”.
The main body of the bag is then constructed, I chose one of my favorite Liberty of London linings “Hera”, a peacock feather print Tana cotton which is blue in colour and works great with black leather. The bag has exceeded my expectations and will no doubt be a great centre piece in the delacyonline SS13 collection.
Another four biker bags will be created to sit along side this one for a bespoke biker bag collection which will be available soon at www.delacyonline.com , where you can currently view the new SS13 collection.
